The Executive makes first contact via phone and/or email. This contact can also occur in-directly when Executive’ family member or friend gifts a mentoring session.
- Once first contact is made there is natural chemistry and skills review.
- Once the Executive is comfortable, we set-up a schedule to speak on the phone for 30 minutes each week for the next month, and then for as long as is requested.
- Substitute one 30 minute session with a 60 minute session once every six weeks; this session can be in person Taper calls to once every other week and then once/month as needed; 60 minute session is vital to balance shorter Vs. longer term strategy and tactics.
In the first discussion we map out their goals Vs. current status. As needed, we continue into second discussion to map out their goals Vs. current status. Otherwise, we identify best path(s) forward, and connect-the-dots based on what has been discussed. Then, we come back to the Executive with a set of recommendations to increase their sense of progress, traction, and level of satisfaction. By fixating first on tactical/low-hanging-fruit items, we can then mature to strategic/higher-hanging-fruit. We track and measure progress, always seeking to identify root-cause, minimized bottle necks, and continue forward.
Much of what happens in each mentoring dynamic is tailored to that moment. As such, not all can be reduced to a template and list of instructions. However, the above framework provides a starting point. We suggest a three month minimum monthly commitment to gain clear visibility of progress.
